The excitement of the holiday season in Vancouver is truly magical. It's the perfect time to lace up your skates and enjoy outdoor skating rinks. From mountaintops to the city center, Vancouver offers beautiful and unique skating rinks for all ages! Join the fun as we share some of the must-visit outdoor rinks in Vancouver.
Grouse Mountain- 6400 Nancy Greene Way, North Vancouver
Grouse Mountain offers an 8,000-square-foot outdoor ice-skating pond—it's the only one on a mountaintop in the Lower Mainland! Whether enjoying a family adventure or planning a romantic date, this is the perfect spot to lace up your skates and glide through the fresh mountain air.
Best of all, ice skating is free with a Mountain Admission Ticket or an Annual Locals Pass! Plus, skate rentals are available for all ages so that everyone can join in on the fun. It’s the best way to make some unforgettable memories!
Shipyard Skate Plaza - 125 Victory Ship Way, North Vancouver, BC
Shipyard Commons outdoor skate plaza is the biggest outdoor skating rink in the area! Nestled on the waterfront at The Shipyards, you'll enjoy breathtaking views of downtown Vancouver and the North Shore mountains while you skate.
During the seasonal operations, they offer daily skating sessions, free helmets and skate aids to help you out. Bonus, if you have your own skates, you can glide across the ice for free!
Robson Square - 800 Robson St, Vancouver, BC
Every winter, the subterranean space near the Vancouver Art Gallery entrance is transformed into a charming ice rink, reminiscent of the festive activities every small-town Canadian once enjoyed at Christmastime. This ice rink is a perfect family-friendly outing, especially if you need to tire out the kids before bedtime.
If you have your own skates, you can use the rink for free (we recommend arriving during off-peak hours to avoid the crowds). If you don’t have skates, rentals are available, and a free helmet is included with your rental. Free live entertainment will also be on many evenings this year, typically from 6 PM to 9 PM.
The City of Vancouver has plans to re-open in December 2024. Please check back for more information as we approach next season. Check here for updates.
